Stade Francais
owner Max Guazzini has renewed his battle with the RFU
following the non-release of James Haskell and Tom
Palmer.
The two England
internationals have been barred from returning to play for
Stade against Perpignan on Saturday despite it being a blank
weekend in the RBS Six Nations.
Guazzini had a public
run-in with the RFU over a similar incident last season, and
now the multi-millionaire has said that the latest
non-release means his club will steer clear of signing
England internationals in the future.
Haskell and Palmer have
both been integral to England's so-far unbeaten campaign
this season and manager Martin Johnson has opted to retain
the former Wasps pair rather than allow them to return to
France to play club rugby.
Guazzini's anger will
hardly be helped by the fact Johnson allowed Toulon
fly-half Jonny Wilkinson to return and play in Top 14
a fortnight ago when there was a previous break in the
tournament. But Johnson will argue that Wilkinson had
hitherto been a sparingly used substitute, while Haskell and
Palmer have both started all three of England's matches.
England's non-release of
players is also in contrast to the availability of France's
internationals, with all of Marc Lièvremont's squad back
with their clubs for this weekend's crucial round of Top 14
games.
"In the future we will not
be signing any players who are either in the England squad
or are close to it. the English clubs get paid when their
players are away with England, but we get nothing. We have a
big match on Saturday and will be without two of our leading
players and this, for certain, will have an influence when
the contracts for the two come up for renewal," Guazzini
said in an interview with The Guardian.

"What is funny is that Tom
Palmer did not interest the England selectors before he
joined Stade Francais," added Guazzini. "Now, as he showed
on Saturday [against France] he is a very good international
player. Haskell would like to have played for us against
Perpignan, but he has also been kept by England," lamented
the Stade owner.
Both Stade Francais and
Perpignan are desperate for points as they seek to try and
make up ground to qualify for next season's Heineken Cup, so
Saturday's game really is a massive encounter despite the
Catalans being ninth and Stade 10th.
Biarritz, by contrast, will
have the likes of Dimitri Yachvili, Imanol Harinordoquy and
Damien Traille back for their home game against la Rochelle.
One can certainly understand Guazzini's frustrations,
especially following Palmer's recent comments saying that
his improved form of late was a direct result of moving to
France two seasons ago.
