Toulon will
travel to Munster for next weekend's Heineken Cup clash
without Jonny Wilkinson.
The in-form fly-half
injured a knee during Toulon's nervy 19-14 home win against
the Ospreys on Saturday, and will now be rested for the
Ireland trip.
Although Wilkinson
played on - and was integral to Toulon's historic debut win
- head coach Philippe Saint-André has opted to rest his star
player in order to avoid aggravating the injury.
Wilkinson will now be
replaced by experienced Argentine international Felipe
Contepomi, who will be returning to play in Ireland for the
first time since his transfer from Leinster two summers ago.

Other French teams were
also left counting the cost of a bruising first weekend of
European action with defending Heineken Cup champions
Stade Toulousain concerned over the fitness of hooker
William Servat after their narrow 18-16 home win against
London Wasps.
French international
Servat injured his left thigh in Sunday's win and was forced
to leave the pitch, to be replaced by Virgil Lacombe.
Stade coach Guy Noves, meanwhile, has formalized the arrival
of Fijian international Rupeni Caucaunibuca, who
watched Sunday's win from the stands.
The hugely talented
30-year-old has signed with the European champions until the
end of the season after centre Yann David was ruled out for
seven months following a double fracture of his right leg in
training.
Caucaunibuca has
immediately been put on a strict fitness regime to shed his
excess pounds, but the eight-time capped international has
not been included in Fiji's 30-strong squad to play France
(in Nantes on Nov 13), Italy and Wales in the November
internationals.
Eight other
France-based players have been included though, with
Clermont's Napolioni Nalaga, Castres' Sérémaia Bai, Racing's
back-row Jone Qovu and La Rochelle duo Norman Ligairi and
Seru Rabeni all included from Top 14. ProD2 sides Aurillac,
Colomiers and Dax provide the other three with Ropate Ratu,
Vereniki Goneva and Saula Radidi all getting the nod from
Fiji coach Sam Domoni.

Clermont Auvergne
are sweating over the availability of Canadian lock Jamie
Cudmore after the combative second row was cited for an
alleged stamping incident on Ernst Joubert in their 25-10
home win over Saracens.
Cudmore, who also
picked up a yellow card in Saturday's win, could be
suspended for between six to eight weeks if found guilty.
Perpignan, who
lost 43-34 away to the Scarlets, are also waiting on the
fitness of young scrum-half Florian Cazenave after he
suffered a bruise shoulder at the weekend. He will undergo
further tests this week before seeing if he is fit to take
part in their home game against Benetton Treviso on Sunday.
The Catalans are also
considering terminating the contract of South African
utility back Philip Burger so that he can take up an
option to return home and play Super 15 rugby. Burger is
currently contracted until 2012 with Perpignan.
There was better news
for Biarritz though, with French centre Damien
Traille saying he was delighted to get back on the pitch
after his second-half cameo during the club's crucial away
win in Bath on Sunday.
Traille had not played
since last season's Heineken Cup quarter-finals, missing all
of this season so far following a summer groin operation.
"I am very glad to be
back on the pitch," he said afterwards. "It's a big
satisfaction to have played for 20 minutes, even if it was
difficult, especially as my kicks were not always well
measured." he added.
And while most eyes
were trained on European action last weekend there was a
full round of ProD2 games in France, with
promotion-seeking Lyon OU drawing a staggering crowd
of 32,000 for their 'home' match in the Rhone-Alpes derby
against Grenoble on Sunday.
The game was switched
to Lyon FC's Stade Gerland, with the hosts winning 39-20 to
stay in second place behind pace-setters SCA Albi.
Finally, the Ligue
Nationale de Rugby (LNR) has confirmed it hopes to host
the two Top 14 play-off semi-finals at Marseille's Stade
Vélodrome on May 27 and 28. An LNR delegation plans to visit
the stadium - used by Toulon for some of its home games -
later this month before making a final decision.
