Mass exodus: Bourgoin

The ongoing exodus from Bourgoin
has continued with confirmation that international fly-half
Benjamin Boyet has signed to join Bayonne next
season.
Boyet's departure for the Basque country
had been long-expected, with the 30-year-old joining the
likes of
Toulon-bound duo Jean-Philippe Genevois and Karena Wihongi
as the Bourgoin squad undergoes major renovation.

The Isere club has
been walking a financial tightrope all season and a
squad-wide decision to take a 17% wage cut back in September
has effectively triggered release clauses for the majority
of players.
Fijian winger Albert
Vulivuli, 24, could be the next to leave with Racing-Métro
ready to swoop, while others expected to head for the exit
include Sylvain Nicolas (Stade Toulousain), Arnaud Tchougong
(Perpignan), Jean-Francois Coux (Montpellier) and David
Janin (Montpellier).

And while
it seems there will still be no shortage of foreign stars
heading to Top 14 in the summer.
The latest big-name signing rumoured to
be on his way is All Blacks scrum-half Piri Weepu,
with the 26-year-old apparently mulling over the possibility
of following Carl Hayman's lead and forsaking World Cup
glory for oodles of euros. Hayman recently confirmed he
would play for Toulon next season and Weepu - a Perpignan
target earlier this season - is said to be thinking along
the same lines after failing to nail down a starting slot
with the All Blacks, with coach Graham Henry appearing to
prefer Jimmy Cowan instead.
Indeed, 14 of his last 15 caps have come
from the bench, and Weepu has admitted to frustration over
his diminishing impact at international level. "I feel I'm
at a pivotal moment of my sporting career," he told the New
Zealand media, before suggesting he is now considering
playing outside his country of birth.
The Hurricanes star - who already has 35
international caps - had been tracked by current Top 14
champions Perpignan, but their acquisition of SCA Albi's
Kevin Boulogne - combined with an expected monthly salary of
35,000 euros - appears to have put them off, for now anyway.
But Weepu could also play at fly-half - a
position that Perpignan do need to strengthen - so a move to
the Catalans cannot be entirely ruled out.
Elsewhere in France there has been differing team news for
those lining up crucial end-of-season play-offs and European
knock out matches.
Clermont Auvergne are sweating on the
fitness of France scrum-half Morgan Parra after the feisty
No 9 picked up an injury against Castres at the weekend,
while Stade Toulousain are likewise awaiting news on Maxime
Medard's ongoing ankle injury. They did, however, receive a
welcome boost with the return to training of captain Thierry
Dusautoir after it had been feared the France skipped might
be ruled out for a couple of weeks with a thigh strain.
Faltering Castres also have injury
concerns with Romain Cabannes, Yann Audrin and Carl Hoeft
all doubtful for their weekend clash with Stade Toulousain.
Racing-Métro are likely to rest prop
Clement Baiocco for their final game - having confirmed
their play-off place - while Biarritz are awaiting a scan on
Imanol Harinordoquy's broken nose to see whether he will
need surgery, and therefore be fit for their Heineken Cup
semi-final against Munster. The Basques had better news with
the return to training of English flanker Magnus Lund after
several weeks away with a torn calf.
Troubled Montauban, meanwhile, have
called off their threatened strike and will definitely play
their make-or-break final-day match against Bayonne,
although head coach Marc Raynaud could be banished to the
stands after being reported to the LNR's disciplinary
committee following last weekend's home defeat by
Montpellier.
Montpellier have been boosted by the
return of captain Fulgence Ouedraogo for their final league
game - against Bourgoin - but relegated SCA Albi are likely
to be without their skipper Vincent Clement for their final
Top 14 match, away to Perpignan. The Catalans will
definitely be without fly-half Gavin Hume, though, after he
broke a metatarsal against Toulon that required surgery, and
he is now doubtful for the Top 14 semi-finals.
