Nothing,
it seems, is going to be straightforward about Dan Carter’s
six-month sabbatical with Perpignan, with news filtering out
this week his registration remains unresolved.
According to reports in the Midi Olympique
the DNACG (Direction nationale d'aide de contrôle et de
gestion) hasn’t signed off his registration and playing
licence yet due to financial concerns.
In effect, this means they have yet to
receive financial guarantees from Perpignan regarding the
payment of his salary. With more than two months to go
before he starts playing for the Catalan club there appears
plenty of time for the paperwork to be clarified, but the
DNACG are not a body to be taken lightly – just ask Albi,
who were relegated from last season’s Top 14 due to
financial irregularities unearthed by the same organisation.
It would, though, appear inconceivable that
the temporary transfer won’t go ahead and the timing of the
story is interesting given that Carter is due in Perpignan
this weekend on a ‘meet the family’ trip before flying on to
London.
Still,
it gives everyone a chance to remind the world that DC is
heading to France to ply his lucrative trade – an
opportunity not to be missed by the marketing teams keen to
capitalise on the capture of rugby’s premier pin-up boy.
